RACE REPORTS
LORETTA'S REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, PALA CA. FOX RACEWAY.
5/30/24-6/2/24
What a weekend of racing for Team Flake!!
We went out to Fox Raceway in Pala, California for the Loretta Lynn Regional Championships. The top 4 finishers will earn their ticket and advance to The Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Tennessee.
#352 Ryder Flake set a goal last year to make it to Loretta's in the Micro E class. He's been practicing, traveling and racing to accomplish this goal. He made it thru the SouthWest and MidWest Area Qualifiers a few months ago on both his Cobra 50 FWE (micro 3 class) and also his KTM SXE-5 electric ( micro E class), and this weekend was the Regionals. The focus was on the E class as he will have another full year to qualify in the Micro 3 50cc 7-8 class.
In the 50cc Limited class out of 31 of the fastest kids in the West, Ryder would finish 9-8 for 9th overall. We were extremely proud of him to finish Top 10. AZ local #597 Ethan Fisher would earn his ticket to Loretta's by going 3-2 for 2nd overall in the Micro 3 50cc 7-8limited Class!
In the MicroE class on his KTM SXE5 out of 23 racers, Ryder would go 5-4 for a 4th overall earning his ticket to the National Ametuer Championships. It was a nail biter that second moto where he had a bad start and was in 7th. Jacob and I were bummed watching him stuck in 7th and not able to make any passes. Then on lap 3 on the back side of the track he got around Perzan, Bough and Castro to move into 4th. He held Castro off to the finish line edging him out and getting that 4th place spot. This would make Castro go 4-5 for the day 5th overall with Flake going 5-4 4th overall.
Ryder was pumped when finally realizing he had done it! The boys all back at camp were cheering him on. He had some tough motos with some serious nailbiter moments and he pulled it off!
Proud of my lil buddy! Ready for the Ranch.... LET'S GO!!!!

#352 Ryder Flake Weekend Race Report 2/15/24- 2/18/24
Started off the middle of the week on the 14th for Ryder's 8th Birthday! Celebrated with a couple friends and got ready for the weekend! Went to Mesquite MX Park in Littlefield, AZ for the 2024 Loretta Lynn's MidWest/SouthWest Dual Area Qualifiers. This track is known for having the best dirt in the West and is the closest thing to the type of dirt tracks they have out East. Rough, deep and loamy ruts for days!!! This track will definitely challenge your skills.
We headed out late Thursday night and got to the track early Friday morning to get in on the practice sessions held before the Saturday and Sunday Area Qualifier races. Ryder had never been to this track (Mesquite) before and has never rode in such deep, rough and long ruts. He would have his work cut out for him as some of the fastest kids in the West were here to battle to make it thru the LL AQ. The top 15 finishers in the Mid-West and the top 12 finishers in the South-West Area Qualifier will get to advance to the Regional Qualifiers.
Ryder as an AMA 7yr old will be racing in 2 different classes this year on his quest to make it to the 2024 Loretta Lynn's Ametuer National Championships. He will be racing his 2024 Cobra 50cc FWE in the Micro3 (7-8) Limited class, and also his 2024 KTM SX E-5 in the Micro E (4-7) Limited class.
Race Breakdown-
Day 1- Midwest Area Qualifiers-
Moto 1 in the Micro3 (50cc) limited class and first race of the day the #352 Flake had a slow start from the far outside out and was about mid pack into the first couple corners getting hung up behind racers getting stuck in the deep-deep ruts. Ryder was fighting to pull his bike up and out of the ruts to get around the other stuck racers in front of him. Once clear of the carnage of stuck racers he charged forward gaining a few places and finished in 12th place (out of 24). Not the way we wanted to start the weekend however much was learned after this first moto. Getting a good start and out in the front was going to be the key to racing this weekend.
Moto 1 in the Micro E (4-7) limited class, #352 Flake got the HoleShot on his KTM SX-E5 and ran away out front to lead and win the first moto in this class. He came off the track pumped and excited with his win. It was a huge confidence booster after his last race getting stuck in behind others
Moto 2 in the Micro 3 (50cc) Ryder had a better start and was out running 9th on the first lap. He battled hard the next few laps passing a couple more racers to get up to 7th to finish the race.
Moto 2 in the Micro E (4-7) R. Flake had another great start just missing the Holeshot but running in 2nd. Passed the leader in the 3rd corner and "2Fast" Flake was gone! He opened up a huge lead over the rest of the racers finishing 29 seconds in front of the next 2nd place finisher. Ryder once again came off the track super excited and proud of the way he rode that moto. We were all proud too.
Overall for the day-
In the Micro 3 (50cc) 7-8 Limited #352 Ryder Flake would finish 12th and 7th for a 9th overall. In the Micro E Limited he would finish 1st and 1st for a 1st overall.
Day 2- Southwest Area Qualifiers-
Moto1- Micro 3 (50cc) Ryder had a good start and got out in to about 5th. He would battle his way into the 4th place position on the second lap and continue hold it thru the rest of the race.
Moto1- Micro E- Again a good start off the gate and into the first turn in @3rd quickly into 2nd and pushing for the lead. On the landing off the first jump his bike died and he slowly rolled up the face of the next jump before stopping. Ryder would spend the next almost 2 minutes trying to get his e-bike going again. Finally he would get it re-booted and re-started but now 1:55min behind the leader (almost getting lapped) and back in the 20th place position. He would spend the next 3 laps charging back as hard as he could and making up ground going from 18th to 14th to 13th to finish in 11th. He was visibly upset with his finish and about his bike shutting down on him however we were proud that he stuck in there and charged his way back to go from last to 11th.
Moto2- Micro3 (50cc) Ryder would get a great jump off the gate and into the first corner in 3rd making an aggressive inside corner pass to move into 2nd place just a few corners later. He was looking great and holding down 2nd with a few seconds in front of 3rd. Just a few corners into the 2nd lap Ryder would get completely stopped, almost going over the bars and hung up in a super deep rut that grabbed his footpegs. Falling over getting his leg trapped under his bike with racers coming at him he spent the next 20seconds pulling his stuck leg out from under the bike and getting his bike re-started and back in the race. Now down in 7th place the #352 Flake would fight back and finish the 2nd lap and rest of the race with a 6th place finish. Once again he was upset with his finish however we were proud to see him never give up and get back into the race as quick as possible.
Moto2- MicroE (4-7) Limited- The #352 Flake would get another great start being 2nd into the first corner and eventually getting into the lead over the finish line jump at the end of the first lap. He would get slowed up in the very next rough corner dropping back to 2nd place and spent the rest of the race putting the pressure on the leader. Ryder would end up finishing 2nd just behind the #3 Bettencourt and both over 30seconds out in front over the 3rd place finisher. What a battle!
Overall for the day for the SouthWest Area Qualifier-
In the Micro 3 (50cc) 7-8 class the #352 Ryder Flake would go 4th-6th for 5th overall
In the MicroE (4-7) class #352 Ryder Flake would go 11th-2nd for a 6th overall.
Even with the Ups and Downs of the racing this weekend, Ryder accomplished his goals. He made it through the Area Qualifiers and qualified for both the MidWest and SouthWest Regionals in both classes. He got a top 5 finish (4th place in Moto 1 on Sun)on his 50cc Cobra and a 1st overall on his KTM SX-E5 (1st-1st in Motos 1-2 on Sat). He proved to himself that he has the skill and speed to run with the fastest kids out there and with a some hard work, he can win!
It was a weekend full of little challenges and we're so proud of all the work and effort Ryder put in.
Big thanks to all those that help make chasing his goals and dreams a reality.

Lots of fun, Cold mornings, Sunny afternoons and even 1 night of rain creating great track conditions except for a little extra muddy and slick Friday morning after the rain, however once the sun was on the track it set up nice for the rest of the day.
Ryder was entered to race in the 51cc (5-8) Open class, Mini E (4-8) Limited Class, 51cc (5-7) Limited class and the 51cc (7-8) Limited class.
In the 51cc (5-8) Open Class Ryder would finish with a 9-6-7 for 7th overall. On the podium in this class would be #4 Jacob Mariner 1-1-1= 1st, #714 Landon Corbin 3-2-2= 2nd, #31 Talon Rogers 2-3-3=3rd.
In the Mini E (4-8) Limited Class #352 Ryder Flake would finish with a 7-7-8=7th overall. On the podium would be #167Jacob Mariner 1-1-1=1st, #31 Haiden Ash2-2-4=2nd, #105Jaxon Castro 3-4-2=3rd
In the 51cc (5-7) Limited Class #352Ryder Flake would have his best finishes of the week with a 7-4-5=5th overall. On the podium would be the #31 Talon Rogers 1-1-1=1st, #311 Haiden Ash 3-3-2=2 overall, and Arizona's own #597 Ethan Fisher 2-2-4=3rd overall.
In the 51cc (7-8) Limited Class #352 Ryder Flake went 7-9-10=8th overall. #31 Talon Rogers went 1-1-3=1st overall, #167 Jacob Mariner 2-2-2=2 overall, #41 Landon Corbin went 3-3-1= 3rd overall in the class.
Overall Ryder did some great things, did some good things and then a few things he needs to work on. He had a couple moto's with some struggles. On friday morning with the track still extra slick and muddy from the overnight rain, he slid off the track 3 separate times however was able to always get back on and back in the fight. Also in his first E-bike race of the week, something got hung up in his rear brake foot lever locking up the rear wheel on an uphill causing him to fall over. By the time he figured it out reaching down pulling his foot lever clear with his hand, he was near the back of the pack but he battled back up to 7th. In the 5-8 Open class Ryder also had a great race and was able to battle against Reagan Heighton #8 and hold her off to beat her to the finish line in the 2nd moto (his first time ever beating her). We also think Ryder has a secret crush on her as he is always asking if she's going to be at the races and bringing up her name. It's been his goal the last couple months to beat her ever since racing against her at Fox Raceway a couple months ago. #352 Ryder Flake also finished every moto in the top 10 (with top 5 in the 5-7 limited class) with some of these kids being top ranked racers in the nation (ex: Talon Rogers, Jacob Mariner, Jaxon Castro, Landon Corbin). Ryder got to see what it is going to take to be a top ranked racer on the National level. He's got the speed and talent to be there! Now time to put in the work! Racing up in class this year has really helped him improve his speed and we're looking forward to the 2024 season.
After or in between races, Ryder could usually be found hanging out with his friends, cruising in the golf cart, playing in the dodgeball tournament or riding his BMX bike on the pump track with tons of other kids. He even got to meet a MX Legend over the week and got to watch some fast and exciting racing on the track.
Big thanks to all those that help and support our favorite lil MX guy. We are already looking forward to next years 21st annual AMA AZ Open!
MOTOLAND MX PARK ROUND 2
Weekend "Flake Racing" Report- 11/18/23-11/19/2023
Out to Motoland Mx park for 2 rounds of racing this weekend. Saturday on the Vet track and Sunday on the Main track. Had some rain over friday night/sat morning that had the track looking like chocolate cake and pudding for the morning practice. Jacob Flake, Ryder and Rue came out early Friday night to camp overnight. Ryder was super excited to race his EMT Racing prepped 24 CobraFWE Anniversary edition with fresh graphics kit. The bike looks amazing!
Saturday on the Vet track:
50cc 7-8 Moto 1. Small turn out of only 5 riders for this race. #352 Ryder "2Fast"Flake battled to get the Holeshot just wheeling out #31Wilson into the first corner. #152 Nixon Graff just after the first corner made a quick pass on Wilson to move into 2nd place. Ryder stayed out front the entire moto increasing his lead each lap winning the race with about 24 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
50cc 4-8 Open Moto 1 had about 12 racers on the gate. #352 Flake pulled the Holeshot again and quickly went to work opening up a comfortable lead on the rest of the pack. 2Fast Flake stayed out again finishing in first.
Between the morning and afternoon moto's some storm clouds rolled in and dropped some rain for about an hour turning the track and the pits into a slick and muddy mess slowing down the mid-day motos. The sun finally came back out and would have the track in decent shape for the afternoon races. Ryder also had some visitors show up to see him race today. His tutor came out with her husband and 2 grandsons. Ryder was excited to see them and put on a great race for them. Team Bluth (Colton and Brixton) was out in the Casa Grande area in their helicopter and flew over circling the track catching some aerial pics of Ryders race and then landing to watch his last moto of the day.
50cc 7-8 Moto 2 and 50cc 4-8 Open Moto 2 would again play out like the first Moto's. Ryder "2Fast" Flake would get out front quickly and lead the entire race in both races without any challenges and would finish the day with 1st place in both classes for the day.
Sunday on the Main track:
Sunday was another day of special visitors. Tatum unfortunately had to work saturday, however was at the track extra early for the day of racing. Also Uncle Camron Oldroyd came out with Livy and Paisley (Ryder's cousins) to watch Ryder race.
50cc 7-8 Moto 1. Ryder got caught sleeping on the gate getting 3rd off the line with Nixon getting the Holeshot and leading into the first half of the first lap. Ryder made his move on a corner to pass Nixon Graff and move into first place. After he was in the lead he started to open up a comfortable lead. He was hitting all the jumps that him and Jacob talked about in practice. He got a little sketchy on a few of them however he never came off the bike. He finished with a comfortable and solid lead over the next finisher.
50cc 4-8 Open Moto 1. Ryder had a good start and was in second going into the first corner. Again he quickly made his way into first by the 3rd corner and checked out! He still pushed hard however was not risking any possible mishap by hitting some of the bigger jumps he was struggling with and coming up a little short on earlier in moto1 of the age class. He finished with over a 30second lead over 2nd place and also finished with his signature "No Footer" over the finish line jump.
After his morning moto's he ran over to the Vet track to put in some practice laps. One of his older friends was out there practicing on their new 85cc ktm. Ryder battled lap after lap with him until his buddy pulled off the track. His other buddy Carter chased him around the practice track on his Surron. It was some fun play time between races. AZ Local Pro Racer Chris Blose even showed up for a few hot laps on the Vet track. Also between moto's Ryder and all his MotoBro's along with sister and cousins cruised around the pits on the golf cart having a blast. It's awesome to see these boys go from the track competing to beat each other to off the track goofing around, having fun being young boys. Now back to afternoon racing.
50cc 7-8 Moto 2. Ryder had a good start off the gate. Couldn't see who got the Holeshot as their was about 4 bikes all right there. Somehow "2Fast" Flake came out the end of the starting line chicane in the lead on fire and was gone! Once again he continued to increase his lead over the rest of the racers and finished in 1st again.
50cc 4-8 Open Moto2. (last race of the day). #352Flake had a good start bumping elbows down the starting line but emerged with the Holeshot. The real race in this moto was the battle for 3rd. Flake had already checked out with a sizable lead with Graff out in second with a 5 second lead over the next 3 racers all battling for the 3rd place spot. The wind had picked up pretty heavy by now this afternoon. On the last lap R. Flake was approaching a lapped rider coming up to one of the step up jumps. The younger rider rolled over the jump up the table not holding their line while Flake sent it!. The wind pushing him causing them to collide when Flake landed. They both went down pretty hard. Flake was able to get back on his bike and finish the race for the win! The other racer he collided with was also able to get back up and finish the race! Both a little banged up however not seriously hurt.
For the weekend #352 Ryder "2Fast" Flake had 1st place finishes in all 8 moto's for the weekend. We're proud of our little guy #352 and all the hard work he puts in. Now to get some rest and get ready for the AZ Open out at ACP the end of next week. This is the biggest race of the year in AZ and will bring in some of the top racers from around the US. It will be a great test to see how Ryder stacks up and continue pushing and moving towards the next level.

Moto 4 kids round 4
barona oaks mX park
11/11/23-11/12/23 Weekend Flake Racing report-
Early saturday morning Pop Pops and Ryder headed out at 3:30am to Barona Oaks MX park in Lakeside, California for round #4 of the Moto4Kids Racing "Rad Riders" series. We had the truck loaded up with all three bikes and gear. Forgot about the daylight savings time change so we got into California and to the track earlier than we planned on.
Our first time out to Barona Oaks MX park and this track is awesome! Nestled in the hills with lots of shade trees around the parking/camping areas. Pretty fast track with lots of flowing jumps. Saturday for practice Ryder went out on the track and just kept putting down laps getting used to the layout of the track. The kid never came in for a break! 45+min later and here comes Ryder walking his bike back to the pits. He was having so much fun he ran out of gas and had to push it back to the truck. The rest of the days practice he kept it to about 20min motos or @ 10 laps. By the end of the day he was pretty settled in and comfortable with the track hitting most of the doubles and step ups around the track.
We left the track and headed to the hotel for the night. Jacob and Rue drove out that night and met us at the Hotel around 6:30pm. Hit the nearby Denny's for dinner and off to bed early for the night.
Sunday morning we loaded up the bikes from the hotel room grabbed some breakfast and off to the track. Ryder would be racing in 3 classes today, 51cc Open, Mini-E (4-8), 51cc (7-8) for a total of 6 races for the day. This would also be Ryders first time racing his new 24 anniversary edition Cobra 50fwe and new 24 KTM SXE-5bike. The bright yellow plastics of the new Cobra made it easier to pick Ryder out on the track.
Moto 1 in the Open class with 17 racers, #352 Ryder had a decent start off the gate and was about 3rd going into the first corner. By the 3rd corner he was leading the race, however the #891 Ryder Clubb was on #352 Ryder Flakes tail pushing him hard. On the 3rd lap Clubb made the pass on Flake and finished the 4 lap moto in 1st with Flake coming in 2nd. Ryder Flake was frustrated that he didn't hold Clubb off however it was a great race.
Moto 1 in the Mini-E class "2Fast" Flake had a great start and got into the lead after the first corner and checked out! He lead the entire race and had over a 30 second lead over 2nd place.
Moto 1 in the 51cc age class, Flake had another decent start again about 3rd into the first corner then working into 1st place by the 3rd corner. Again the #891 Ryder Clubb was on him the entire moto. Flake would create a little distance on Clubb in the rough sections and corners and Clubb would make up the ground on the fast wide open sections. It was clear R. Flakes bike was not geared optimally for the long fast sections of this track. On the last lap in the long sweeping left handed corner coming into the finish line straight away R. Clubb got past Flake and took the win. #352 Flake was again upset that he led the entire race only to lose it on the final section of the track. It was a great race and great battle on the track.
Moto Dad Jacob did some coaching and motivating with Ryder and upped his spirits as we got ready for the afternoon moto's.
Moto 2 in the Open Class, Flake was pumped up and ready to battle. Again Flake was quickly into first by the second corner with the #891 Clubb right there with him. The two Ryder's (Flake and Clubb) battled lap after lap. 2Fast Flake lead the entire moto until the last lap again in the long fast sweeping turn. Clubb went for the pass and Flake took a bad line, hitting a bad rutt/bump throwing him from his bike. He was down for a good 30seconds before able to get back on his bike and finish (still with a 2nd place finish). He was banged up with a hurt wrist and elbow and visibly in pain from the high speed crash. Dad checked him out and made sure nothing serious as he only had about 8min till his next race.
Moto 2 on the E-bike. Ryder was still in pain and upset over the big crash he just had in the last moto. He took off out the gate and got a comfortable lead and then took it easy, not pushing too hard or risking any mistakes. Once again easily taking the win in the e-bike class. We had a couple hours before his last race so back to the pits to ice-down his elbow and wrist and make sure he's good to go for the last race.
Moto 2 in the Limited Age class. #352 Flake had a bad start. The gates on the right side stuttered causing Ryder and a couple others to bump into their gates and have to push back off the gate before taking off while all the racers on the left got a clean gate drop. Ryder quickly got into 2nd place with the #891 Clubb out front. No challenges made as Flake couldn't make up the ground on Clubb and there was no one close to challenge Flake for the 2nd place spot. Not as exciting of a race when they get all spread out compared to the last battling moto, but we were still proud that Ryder Flake kept pushing through the pain and rode hard to finish in 2nd.
Overall for the day #352 Ryder "2Fast" Flake went 2-2=2nd overall in the Open class, 1-1=1st overall in the E-bike class, and 2-2=2nd overall in the Limited Age class. It was a great day of racing and learning for Team Flake. Ryder already excited and talking about next week's racing.
We collected Ryders awards, got a couple quick photos, loaded the bikes and hit the road for the drive back to AZ. Got home just after 10pm (our earliest time home yet).
It was another great weekend of racing and fun. Glad that Rue was able to come out to cheer on her brother and have some fun with us at the track.

ACP Cactus state mx championship
11/04/23- Saturday
This Weekend's racing report for Flake Racing.
Team Flake headed out to their home track for the 2023 ACP Cactus State MX Championship. Ryder was to have a busy day running in 3 different classes. 51cc 7-8 Limited Class, 51cc Open Class and the Mini E (4-8) Limited Class (electric mx class). Jacob had to leave early Sat morning for the AMRA series race in Vicksburg so MotoMom Tatum Flake, Rue and pop pops would have to handle the pits and cheer squad for our favorite MX guy.
This race brought about a half dozen fast racers out from California to see how they run against the AZ boys and also to get some seat time on the ACP National Track that will be the track for next months 20th annual AZ Open (Their biggest race of the year at ACP).
First race of the day (7-8 Limited) Ryder "2Fast" Flake came out the gate with a decent start and running in a solid 3rd place on the first lap. Coming out of a corner hitting the finish line rhythm section, Ryder came up short on a triple that he usually only doubles and came down front wheel first into the lip of the 3rd jump. He got pretty banged up knocking the wind out of himself and luckily crawling off the track before getting hit by any other riders. After about 2 min he got back on the bike. Now in last place he rode over to pop pops (still visibly shaken up by his wreck). He told pop pops he was ok and wanted to finish the race, so he got back on the track and finished moto 1 in last place. We were not sure how this crash was going to affect him and his mood for the rest of the day however he seemed in great spirits and realized the mistake he made and now had to quickly get ready for his next race.
2nd race of the day was Moto 1 in the Open Class. Once again Ryder had a good start and in the top 5 into the first corner. Ethan Fisher #597 quickly opened up a good sized lead on the rest of the pack with #8 Reagan Heighton out of California running 2nd and the #17 Anthony Lozano also out of California running 3rd. Ryder still a little gun shy from his earlier wreck finished in 4th with Bently Timm #6 right behind him finishing 5th out of the 20 racers
3rd race of the day Moto 1 in the Mini E 4-8 Class. Ryder was on a brand new 2024 KTM SXE5 that he had zero time on and almost no suspension prep (factory stock settings). He was running a solid 2nd place behind the #17 Lozano with the #338 Kash Poyzer on his back tire. Ryder couldn't get away from Kash and in lap 3 Kash made his pass. The race finished with Lozano 1st, Poyzer 2nd and Flake 3rd for this first moto. Ryder came off the track saying that the bike was bottoming out the suspension on all the jumps so he couldn't hit the bigger jumps.
Now we had some time to rest before the afternoon motos. Ryder had a banged up shoulder, bruised hip and knee from his race 1 crash. The afternoon heat was also coming on with highs in the mid 90's.
Race #4 Moto 2 in the 7-8 Limited Class #352 Ryder "2Fast" Flake had a great start running 2nd into the first corner. #597 Ethan Fisher again out front on his Cobra FWE with Flake holding 2nd and #29 Hunter Myers in 3rd but putting the pressure on Ryder for the first 3 laps. Myers was finally able to make the pass on Flake taking a faster outside corner and was able to create a little distance over Flake. Bently Timm once again hanging in close behind Flake the entire race. Moto 2 in the Limited Class would have 1st- Fisher, 2nd-Myers, 3rd- Flake, 4th Timm, 5th Lozano out of 12racers in this class
Race #5 Moto 2 in the 51cc Open Class. Ryder came off the gate with a good start and again found himself in the top 3 into the first corner. Ethan Fisher once again ran away from everyone in this race on his modified Cobra, with Reagan Heighton in 2nd, Lozano in 3rd, Flake in 4th and Timm in 5th. Only 16 of the original 20 racers from the morning showed up to the starting gate on this hot afternoon moto. On lap 3 Lozano took a bad bounce on a laning and ended up wadding himself up pretty good letting Flake move into the 3rd place spot. This race would end with 1st- Fisher, 2nd- Heighton, 3rd- Flake, 4th- Timm, 5th- #55Jax Bernal out of the 16 starters. Ryder was in great spirits with his finish and felt he was riding good and looked good and comfortable on the bike.
Race #6 Moto2 Mini-E 4-8 class. MotoDad Jacob Flake was able to make it back from his AMRA series race in Vicksburg to quickly do some suspension adjustments on the new KTM SXE5 bike and also have some father/son moto coaching/encouragement time with Ryder before his last race of the day. Ryder's whole mood changes when his dad is there and able to see him race and talk about the track with him. His confidence level is on another level after talking with his dad and Jacob making the suggestions on what lines and jumps to hit to make up time on the track. Ryder has a lot of trust in his Dad and Jacob is the perfect coach/motivator for him.
Off the gate Ryder got the Holeshot and lead the entire moto. The suspension changes that Jacob made to the bike helped tremendously and Ryder was hitting all the lines and jumps on the E-bike just like he does on his Cobra FWE. "2Fast" Flake was able to open up a comfortable 5second lead to win the moto with 1st- #3RyderFlake, 2nd-#338KashPoyzer, 3rd-#238HendryBrayden for the podium spots
It was a great finish to a day that started out so rough. So proud of Ryder for having the strength and mindset to continue on and give it his best! "Flakes can do hard things" and he proved again that he can!!! Next weekend out to California for the Moto4Kids Rad Riders series at Barona Oaks.
Overalls for the day-
7-8 Limited Class- 12 - 3 for a 7th overall
5-8 Open Class- 4 - 3 for a 3rd overall
5-8 Mini E Class- 3 - 1 for a 1st overall
RAD RIDER SERIES ROUND 2, FOX RACEWAY.
10/22/23- Sunday
This Weekend's racing report for Flake Racing (Part 2)-
We headed out after racing ACP yesterday to Fox Raceway in Pala, California for the Moto4Kids Rad Riders Series race #3. We arrived into Perris, CA around 12:30am and camped out in the Walmart parking lot to get a little sleep before heading out to Fox raceway when their gates opened in the morning.
#352 Ryder"2Fast"Flake would be racing in 3 separate classes today going against some of the fastest kids in the nation. Some of these racers just competed at the AMA Loretta Lynn Amatuer National Championships earlier this year in August. Ryder would be racing in the 51cc Open, Mini-E (4-8)*this is on an electric powered mx bike, and 51cc (7-8), This race would be done on the National Track (Big Jumps, Big hills, Fast racing).
It's always great to get Ryder to other tracks outside of AZ and to bigger events that bring lots of racers in from across the US. Fox Raceway is also one of his personal favorites!!!
During practice it was obvious there were some crazy fast and talented racers that Ryder would racing against. Ryder never ceases to amaze us though as he gets faster and faster as the day goes on, so we were looking forward to some great racing and getting some education from this event.
Race Class #8 with 25 bikes on the gate- (51cc Open), Moto 1- #352Ryder looked like he was sleeping off the gate and was deep middle of the pack going into the first corner. The leaders #8Reagan Heighton, #246EnzoPosca, and #516Grayson Hood ran out a good sized lead from the rest of the pack. #352RyderFlake would finish this moto 1 in 6th place with a huge gap in front of him and a huge gap to 7th place behind him (no man's land as I call it). He rode well however needed more time getting familiar with this track.
Quickly off the Cobra 50 and onto his GasGas e-mx bike for his next race. Class #3 Mini-E (4-8). Only 12 riders in this race. Ryder's Electric bike has some pretty high time/hours on it as it is his play bike for his backyard track at home. Once again we didn't have any high expectations for this class, it was more for the seat time and getting more comfortable on this track. Ryder had a decent start off the gate and again was about mid pack. He quickly worked through the rough sections and got himself into the 4th place position where he finished. 1st-#246 Posca, 2nd-#105 Castro, 3rd-#779 McLaughlin
A little time before his next race Class #7- 51cc (7-8) so Ryder went out and ran some practice laps on the Vet track to just stay loose and comfortable (plus the kid just loves to be riding his bike). This moto again he came out of the gate about mid pack and fought his way to a 6th place finish, working his way thru some of the lapped traffic from the Class #6 51cc 4-6 (12"wheel) racers.
Ryder's bike seemed to have a little hiccup when coming out of corners and jumping on the gas which was causing him to lose some ground. The great guys from EMT Racing were all set up doing Cobra Trackside Support so we were able to get his bike looked over before his next moto. A quick check on his clutch (which was all good) and a little adjustment to his carb. and his bike was ripping again.
2nd Moto's of the Day (afternoon races) and Ryder was still full of energy. He rode a couple practice laps again on the Vet track with the freshly adjusted carburetor and quickly got ready for Moto 2 in the 51cc Open Class. He got a decent start off the gate in about 6th place. There's a back section of the track where you can't see the racers, when Ryder came back into view he was in 3rd! This kid running with best of them! He ended up finishing 3rd in Moto 2. 1st- #246 Enzo Posca, 2nd- #8 Reagan Heighton, 3rd- #352 Ryder Flake. Jacob and I were losing our minds!
Moto 2 in the Class 3 Mini-E(4-8) Ryder had a good start and worked into a solid 3rd place position. Ryder was giving it everything he had on his GasGas E bike. #779 Billy McLaughlin kept charging and making ground on the #351 of Flake in the straightaways but R. Flake out rode him in all the rough corners. These 2 were putting on a show for the crowd, pushing each other into the corners, banging bars down the straightaways just some great battles. McLaughlin was able to finally get a pass on Ryder somewhere on the back half of the track and finishing just in front of Ryder for the 3rd place spot. A couple fist bumps and high fives were given by many spectators as those 2 made their way back to their pits. ***Sometime during this race and the heavy battling going on between Flake and McLaughlin on the track, R. Flakes transponder came off so his lap and track times did not get recorded. Moto4Kids were able to go through their visual records and confirm Flakes 4th place finish (more transponder issues to follow)
Last moto of the day Class #7- 51cc (78). 2Fast Flake got a great jump on the gate running hard and deep into the first corner.... the kid looked like Bam-Bam (Justin Barcia) smashing and holding his line into the corner. Through the chaos of the corner he pops out in about 3rd with the class leaders behind him. By the end of the first lap #352 "2Fast"Flake was leading the race. He was able to hold the lead for the first 1.5 laps till the #8 Reagan Heighton got around him late into the 2nd lap. Reagan tried to create some distance on the #352 but Flake was not going to let it happen. He kept the #8 in his crosshairs for the rest of the race. Ryder finishes in 2nd place behind Reagan. 1st-#8Reagan Heighton, 2nd- #352Ryder Flake, 3rd-#516Grayson Hood.
***Ryder celebrated his 2nd place moto win with a No Footer over the finish line. The kid was grinning from ear to ear.
Overalls for #352 Ryder Flake
Class #8 (51cc Open) he went 6th-3rd for a 5th overall
Class #3 (mini-E) Ryder went 4th-4th for a 4th overall
Class #7 (51cc 7-8) he went 6th-2nd for a 3rd overall
The little guy out of Queen Creek AZ is looking to accomplish some major things this upcoming year as he still has 2 full years (2024 and 2025)to compete in 7-8 age classes.
Quick showers, loaded up and then a long 6.5hr drive home and we rolled into Casa de Shumway at 1am all 3 of us (Jacob, Ryder and pop pops) walking like old men with all our body aches. Big thanks to Jennifer Bishop aka JuJu for always supporting us even when she's not with us at the track. Making sure there's enough (always more than enough) food and drinks and snacks in the trailer for the weekend. Keeping Ryder's lil sister Rue entertained and spoiled back home while us boys and Momma Tatum Flake are out getting dirty at the races! We couldn't do it without the support from Jennifer!
We are so proud of how Ryder had such a turnaround in attitude and commitment this weekend even when things got tough. I also learned an awesome thing this weekend... "Flakes can do hard things!" I'll never forget it!

10/21/23-Saturday
This Weekend's racing report for Flake Racing (Part 1)-
What a crazy and long weekend of racing for Team Flake. Jacob Flake headed up to Prescott, AZ early Saturday morning for the 6 hour Halloween Howler Team Race. He teamed up with a couple other buddies/racers for this event and they called themselves "Team Outlaws" and raced in the Expert Class. Jacob took the Holeshot to start the race. Team Outlaws was able to complete 26 laps in 6 hrs;11min to make it on the podium with a 2nd place overall in the Expert Class! Way to go Jacob and Team Outlaws!!!
Jacobs day was not done though. He had to leave Prescott and get out to Arizona Cycle Park (ACP) to meet with us before heading out to Fox Raceway for Sunday Racing.
Ryder Flake #352 had his own busy schedule to keep of racing for the weekend. Saturday morning Ryder, and Moto mom Tatum Flake and Pop Pops and got up around 4:30am to get loaded and out to ACP for round 2 of the SMX Fall series.
Ryder was going to be racing 2 classes (4 motos total). 51cc (7-8) Limited Class and the 51cc (4-8) Open Class. It was going to be a hot and long day of racing ahead of us. Little did we know of the challenges this day was going to create for Lil Team Flake!
Race 1, Moto-1 in the Limited Class, Ryder #352 got a bad gate pick but made the best of it and was in 4th place going into the first corner with Bently Timm #8 getting the Holeshot. Ryder did his best and worked his way up to 2nd place but just couldn't make up the ground to catch the #8 Timm. 1st place went to #8Timm, 2nd to #352Ryder Flake and 3rd went to #338Kash Poyzer.
Race 2, Moto-1 in the Open Class, Ryder"2Fast"Flake got the Holeshot and was able to stay out front with the #8 Bently Timm keeping the pressure on Flake thru the entire race. 1st place #352Flake, 2nd #8Timm, 3rd #338Poyzer again making up the top 3 finishers. Ryder was super pumped and excited with his race.
By the afternoon, the heat of the day had really set in with the temps reaching into the low 100's. Ryder in between races was out in the heat playing with his friends instead of keeping cooled down and hydrated. This would come back to play a big factor in his afternoon moto's.
Moto 2 in the Limited Class hit the track around 1pm. It was HOT!!! One of Ryders friends didn't even show up for the 2nd Moto (afternoon races), Another racer/friend pulled off the starting gate just before the gate drop due to being exhausted from the heat and not feeling ok.
Ryder was still on his high from winning his last moto in the Open Class so he was pumped for this race. He got the Holeshot again and was gone! He was riding fast and smooth. He pulled about a 5 second gap over the next closest racer #8Timm and was leading going into the last lap. Ryder was working his way thru lapped traffic. There was a bike just to the inside of the right handed rutt/line that Ryder likes to take thru that corner. He decided to go outside of the rutt around the lapped racer and instead of keeping the line thru the corner that he started, he decided to try and drop into the rut thru the corner. He ended up stuffing the front wheel into the rutt and coming off the bike. The #8Bently Timm made his way around into the first place position and #338 KashPoyzer was coming in fast. Ryder was able to get his bike re-started and off just before Poyzer came into that corner and Flake was able to finish in 2nd. 1st-Timm, 2nd- Flake, 3rd- Poyzer to round out the Limited class of 10 racers on the day.
Ryder was visibly upset with losing the race on the last lap. He was exhausted, overheated, dehydrated and emotionally spent. He was complaining of a headache from the heat and didn't want to focus on his last race of the day. we got him settled down and into the trailer to cool off and rest before his last moto of the day.
This next part of this update is the part that many people don't ever talk about when it comes to racing, (or any sports a child competes in at a high level). Competitive sports is not alway smiles and rainbows! (or mixing gas and hauling ass as the moto guys like to say). There are times where the child is going to hit a wall and have a major challenge or struggle immediately in front of you. How do you handle it and do what's best for your kid???
---About 30min before his last moto I came back to the trailer to let Tatum know that Ryder should start getting suited back up for his race. Ryder was sleeping at this time. Tatum wanted to make him a little energy snack before waking him so he would feel better after his nap. Ryder didn't want to get up. He was still exhausted. He was wanting to give up and not race his last moto. He already saw two others leave and not make it to the afternoon moto's. He only wanted to rest and go to California's Fox raceway the next day. I did all the talking I could do with my grandson about how if he was that tired to not even show up, that we should just go home and not worry about Fox Raceway on Sunday, and I would understand. That's when Tatum (Momma Bear) Flake stepped in. I saw a side of my step daughter that I had never seen before. She looked at me and said give me a minute here. She started talking with Ryder about commitments and finishing things through. That your actions have consequences and effect others too. Long story short.... Ryder was not hurt or in any danger of getting back out there to run his last race of the day. One thing she said to Ryder that sticks in my head was.... "Ryder.... What do we say at home???......Flakes can do hard things! Flakes don't quit! You will regret quitting when you get older rather than be proud that you finished because Flakes can do Hard Things!!!" I was so impressed and proud of Tatum and in the loving but firm way she delivered this message to her son!
Just then we could hear them calling for Ryders number at the gate. We were going to miss it!!! We scrambled to get Ryder geared up. One of the other Moto Moms called Tatum on her phone and told her she was holding a gate slot for Ryder and to hurry! I sent Ryder off on his bike down to the gate and I ran down there (literally ran) to make it to the gate just seconds before it dropped.
Moto 2 of the Open Class (with 22 racers) Ryder came off the gate and got the Holeshot coming around the outside then going strong inside into the first corner. #8Timm went down taking the outside line in the first corner forcing him to battle thru the pack. Leading the race, #352Flake opened up a comfortable lead over #338KashPoyzer to as much as 7 seconds in the moto. Lap 3 he slowed things down a little being a little more cautious coming up into lapped riders. KashPoyzer was on it and making up ground fast. At the finish line Ryder"2Fast"Flake took the checkered flag with Kash right on his back tire. They both missed pulling off the track due to a lapped rider and not seeing the checkered flag so those 2 were off for a bonus lap 5 of some serious hard battling. It was the best lap of the day with those 2 battling even though it wouldn't count if anything changed. Kash made some great attempts to get around Ryder and Ryder held his lines and corners tight not giving anything easy to the #338. They finished the extra lap pulling over giving each other knuckles and congratulations on an awesome last race! #8BentlyTimm unfortunately went down hard later in the race knocking the wind out of himself, however was able to get back on his bike and finish the moto in 7th.
So overalls for the day
50cc Limited class #8BentlyTimm 1-1-1st overall, #352RyderFlake 2-2-2nd overall, #338KashPoyzer3-3-3rd overall
50cc Open Class- #352 RyderFlake 1-1-1st overall, #338KashPoyzer 3-2-2nd overall, #55JaxBernal 5-4-3rd overall. Was great watching these young boys battling and having fun racing!

AMRA, CINDERS HAULIN' ASH ENDURO
Weekly racing report for Flake Racing!
-Team Flake (Jacob and Ryder) headed up north to the Cinders in Flagstaff for the AMRA series "Hauling Ash" Enduro race last weekend. Looked to be a fun and challenging race. Jacob finished with a 7th place overall and a 5th place in the AA (pro) division. This race was over an hour long (closer to 1.5hrs) of racing and the top finishers were all pretty close in total time. Jacobs first race back on the bike in over a month so he was excited to get back out racing and having some fun.
-Ryder "2Fast" Flake was gone like a rocket in the 50cc (7-9) class. It was a time 30min moto for laps. Ryder finished in 1st completing 23 laps with second place completing 19 laps. The kid was "hauling ash".
Ryder has gone undefeated in the AMRA series this year and has locked up the points lead and Championship with still 1 race to go for the series (10 race series).
We're proud of our favorite MX Guys "Team Flake" #Flakeracing. Great job!
Now to get ready for next weekend! Ryder has races every weekend from now thru mid December so the craziness begins! lol

fall smx series, acp.
First race of the Fall SMX (saturday motocross) series out at AZ Cycle Park was a huge success. Lots of racers showed up for this series with over 25 separate motos on the Vet Track.
Team Flake went out Friday night early to camp overnight to hopefully get some rest before the early morning practices and racing started. Unfortunately, Jacob must of caught a piece of rebar turning onto the dirt road to ACP and punctured a truck tire. He spent the next hour changing out the tire while getting dusted by traffic heading to the track. So much for getting a great night of sleep and hopefully this was not a preview of how the weekend would go.
Pop Pops rolled out to the track early Saturday morning before the races to meet up with Team Flake. ACP was packed! The weather finally being under 100 degrees brought out the crowds.
The track/dirt looked amazing first thing in the morning, however, that would not remain the case as the day went on. The high winds that picked up throughout the day quickly dried up any water they could put down on the track making for rough, bumpy, dusty, dry and windy conditions into the day. Ryder felt like he had a good practice and was looking forward to his moto's for the day.
First race of the day in the 51cc (4-8yr) Open class with over 21 racers on the gate the #352Ryder "2Fast" Flake was about 3rd into the first turn out of the gate. An unknown new kid in town (Kamden Wilson #31) took the HoleShot. Ryder quickly went to work taking over the #2 and then the #1 spot within the first minute of racing. From there it was a non-stop battle as #338 Kash Poyzer kept the pressure on Flake for the entire moto never giving Ryder an opportunity to pull away the entire moto. Flake took the win with Poyzer in second and Wilson in 3rd.
First race in the 51cc (7-8yr) Limited class Ryder had another rough start out of the gate. #31 Wilson took the HoleShot again and #352 would have to come from 4th place to battle to the front on the first lap. Once out front Ryder opened up a comfortable little lead over the rest of the pack. By the finish of the race "2Fast" Flake was working his way through lapped traffic and took the win with a comfortable lead of over 10 seconds! #338 (Kash Poyzer) finished a strong 2nd and #31 (Kamden Wilson) again finishing in 3rd.
After the first race of the day, Team Fisher (#597 Ethan Fisher) not racing today, however, was out at the track, came over to give Ryder some pointers on some quicker lines and jumps to hit that should help Ryder and hopefully give him a little faster lap times in the following races. It must of worked as Ryder was the only 50cc on the track hitting the downhill double on the back side of the track helping extend his lead times.
The winds by the afternoon have gotten pretty bad with 40+mph gusts. The racing would continue as the track dried out quickly and got super choppy (The kind of riding Ryder is used too at his house). Moto 2 of the day in the Open Class Ryder again had a rough start off the gate going into the first corner about 3rd. The new kid in town #31 Wilson again with the HoleShot. Ryder quickly again worked his way to the front by the first few corners and opened up a comfortable lead to again win the moto again working his way through lapped traffic by the end of the race. 1st-#352 Flake- 2nd #338 Poyzer- 3rd #55 Jax Bernal for the top 3. Ryder said he got a little nervous with the wind that pushed him around off the jumps however he kept charging and hitting the lines he knew were fast to win the race.
In between the last motos #31 Kamden Wilson came over to the Flake camp and introduced himself. Ryder and Kamden hit it off with having many of the same interests outside of MX racing. Kamden told Ryder his secret for his dominating HoleShots of the day (maybe he should have kept it his secret. LOL). His family just moved here from Washington and live pretty close to Team Flake so it's good to have another MotoBro for Ryder and to see some more young talent in the valley.
Last race of the day Moto 2 in the Limited Class, Ryder "2Fast" Flake implemented the technique he learned from his new friend Wilson and got his first Holeshot of the day. He quickly opened up a comfortable lead on the rest of the pack. The last lap Kash Poyzer was putting in a hard charge to try and catch back up to #352 Ryder. He made up some time however there was too much track and not enough time to make up. #352 "2Fast" Flake finished with about an 8 second lead over the rest of the pack. #352Flake-1st, #338Poyzer-2nd, #31Wilson-3rd.
Congratulations to all the racers that came out today!
Overall it was a great day of racing. Some big confidence building and fun times for Ryder! The next few months weekends are packed with racing around the state so this was a great warm up to start off for the fall racing season.

MOTO 4 KIDS, PALA, CA. FOX RACEWAY
What a weekend!
Ryder, his dad Jacob and Pop Pops loaded up the truck and trailer friday night and headed back out to Fox Raceway in Pala, California for the Moto 4 Kids Racing- 2023 Rad Riders Series. On Saturday, Ryder spent the day practicing on the Vet Track. Aunt Heather and Uncle Chris from Carlsbad came out to see and watch Ryder practice. Ryder got some good seat time in and called it an early day to get some rest for the races the next day on Sunday. Team Bluth (Brixton and family) showed up late Saturday after having spent the day racing over at Glen Helen and then driving over to Fox Raceway for the Moto4Kids Race the next morning.
Ryder was entered into 3 different classes (2 motos each=6 races total). Mini E (4-8), 51cc 7-8, and the 51cc Open Jr.-Sr.
Ryder in his first race on his Mini E (Electric) bike had some great racing. He was battling with the lead pack for 2nd place. Ryder went down (slid out in the mud) on the last lap but was able to get back up fast enough and back on the bike without losing any positions and finishing 3rd out of 14 racers.
Second moto (1st race in the 51cc 7-8class) Ryder had a good start but didn't get the hole shot so he had to battle his way from about 3rd into 1st within the first lap. He ended up leading the race and finished with a 1st out of the 10 racers in the class.
Third moto (1st race in the 51cc Open class) Ryder again had a decent start and again found his way battling his way to the lead. He was clearly quicker through the rough corners and ruts and had the rhythm section dialed in. He would continue to open up his lead through the race. He opened up a pretty good lead of six seconds over the 2nd place finisher and finished 1st in a big class of 25 racers.
Fourth moto (2nd race in the Mini E class) Ryder again found himself battling with the top 2 riders. He continued to make up ground in the corners and ruts however would lose some ground on the long straight-a-ways on his e-bike. Again he finished 3rd going 3-3 for a 3rd overall in the Mini E class.
Fifth Moto- (2nd race in the 51cc 7-8yr old class). Ryder again worked his way off the gate and got into 1st place pretty quick. The other racers put the pressure on him a little more in this moto however he was able to fend off the other racers and finish 1st again with 2nd place just a second behind. It was a great, close race of battling. Ryder goes 1st-1st for a 1st overall in the 51cc 7-8 class.
Sixth Moto- (2nd race in the 51cc Open Jr.-Sr) Ryder once again had to battle off the start and make his way to the lead on the first lap. From there it was nothing but holding on and protecting his lead as he was challenged a few times by the other racers. Ryder finished the Moto again in 1st place going 1st-1st for a 1st overall in the 51cc Open Jr-Sr class.
Ryder was so pumped and excited about how his races went this weekend. He rode awesome! We couldn't be more proud and excited for him. His riding skills just keep improving weekly. The talent of racers that go to California to race is second to none. We truly thought this year was going to be a tough year of skills building with not a lot of winning since he is riding up in age class however Ryder won't quit or take it easy!
Ryder said his highlights of the weekend were....1- Winning! 2- Playing with his friends in between races. 3- Spending time with Pop-Pops and his Dad! Between Motos... Ryder, Brixton and Riggins Bluth made mini mx tracks in the mud, cruised around in the golf cart, ate slushies, caught a lizard, chased a mouse out of his gear bag that ran up somewhere underneath the trailer. The kid was just living his best life!
Ryder got his trophies and won a new tire for his bike and then it was time to hurry and pack up and hit the road to get back to AZ as fast as possible since he had school this morning. A quick stop at In and Out for dinner (Ryder was craving a grilled cheese) It was a long weekend of driving and we made it home about 1:30am. (The life of a Moto Kid family... LOL)

Moto 4 kids, Pala ca. Fox raceway
What a weekend for Team Flake!
Went out to Fox Raceway in Pala, California for Ryder to race in the Moto4Kids series. We left Thursday night and got into Temecula at 2:30am to catch a couple hours of sleep in a Walmart parking lot. Woke up to morning fog at 6am with a temp in the 60s (What a change from the weather in Phoenix). Gates at Fox opened at 8am and of course we were first in line waiting to get in! This track is AMAZING to say the least! What a location and setup!
Friday was spent as a practice day for Ryder and then some training with Coach Pat with SharkMoto. Jacob Flake's practice day was ended short when lost the bottom end in his motor and locked it up. He was in as best of spirits considering the situation.
A couple MX Pros Dean Wilson #15 and Justin Barcia #51 showed up also for a little practice time since it was an off weekend of racing for the Pro's.
Friday ended with us camping out at the track, watching Goonies in the trailer and getting to bed somewhat early to get rested for a long Saturday of racing.
Saturday-
Ryder was going to be racing 3 classes (6 motos). The 51cc (7-8), 51cc Open Jr./Sr., and Mini-E (4-8).
The morning was a rough one for Ryder #352 on his 50cc Cobra. He went out in practice and slid out in a muddy corner on the very first lap of the morning, coming off the track a little upset and bike covered in mud. Got the bike and the kid a little cleaned up. Moto 1, Race 1 in the 51cc (7-8) Ryder was a little sleepy off the gate getting a not so great start. He was running about 5th when he went down in a corner on the last lap. Got hung up under his bike. Finally able to get back up and running but now down to @13th place and ran his way back to finish 11th. He came off the track visibly upset saying that his rear brake was not working and that's why he went down. (Not the way he wanted to start the day). Moto Dad Jacob and I cleaned up the bike and did what we could to get the bike ready for the next moto. Looks like a little mud in the brake and possible chain lube getting onto the rear brake disc was his issue. Moto 2 race 1 in the 51cc Open class Ryder got off the gate again a little delayed but went and battled his way with the front pack while the front 2 leaders opened up a huge lead on the rest of the racers. Ryder ended up finishing 5th out of 24. Now onto Moto 3 race 1 of the day the Mini-E class. Ryder came alive and was on fire on his #351 Gas-Gas E-bike. He got the hole shot and led the entire race with 2nd place nipping at his rear tire throughout the race. He came off the track all pumped and excited with the fire back in his eyes!
Afternoon Races- 2nd motos of the day-
Ryder had his MOJO back and was feeling good going into the afternoon. 51cc 7-8, Ryder worked some different lines thru the corners while he battled for the 3rd place spot while the #310 C.Stoner and #13 W. McCutcheon again ran away for the top place finishes. #352 R.Flake finished strong in 3rd place holding off #130 M.West and #96 C.Cornelius.
Moto 5 race 2, 51cc Open class Ryder had a good start and opened up a comfortable lead in front of the #130 and #825 to again finish 3rd. (#13 W.McCuthcheon and #310 C.Stoner again finishing 1st and 2nd)
Last Moto of the day on the #351 Gas-Gas E-Bike Ryder took the Holeshot and lead the entire race. Opened up a comfortable lead and finished with a little "NoFooter" over the finish line jump (Ryders signature finish line move).
Overalls for the day- 51cc (7-8)- 11th and 3rd for 6th place overall. 51cc Open class= 5th and 3rd for a 5th overall. Mini-E class= 1st-1st for a 1st overall!
After the long day of races we decided to not pack up and camp another night. When the sun was going down we walked the track. Ryder and Jacob climbed up the BIG hill climb the pros run in the nationals that were there just about 6weeks ago. The ruts in the corners were HUGE!!! Sunday morning up early to load up for the drive home. Stopped at Denny's for breakfast and made it home to the family about 3:30pm
-Highlights of the Weekend-
Ryder- Watching all the Big Crows scavenging around the track after everyone left. Checking out the Pro Sections of the track and then watching videos of the pros riding the same track as him!
Me- Spending time with my favorite Moto Racers Ryder and Jacob Flake. Watching those two interact and the memories they are making and the bond they have and all the fun they had playing on the Pro section of the track. Sliding down the dirt hill, laying down in the ruts created from the pros! LOL. And The weather!!!! Highs of 93 Lows of low 60s. By 6-7 o'clock the heat is gone and already back into the 70s.
It was a great weekend!

ROUND 3, ACP COPPER STATE CLASSIC SMX
What a crazy night out at ACP for the final round of the Copper State Classic Series SMX night races! Practice was around 5pm while it was still over 108+ degrees out! It was HOT!!!! Ryder went out for his practice laps checking out the lines of the track and was having some fun working on throwing whips off the jumps. No real rush or fast race pace during practice...just having some fun and warming up on his bike.
Now time to RACE! His first race of the night was in the 51cc 7-8 Limited class. He had a great start off the line and was in second going into the first corner (a big sweeping left hand turn) right behind the leader #6 Bently Timm. Timm lost his front end going down hard causing #352 Ryder Flake to crash into B.Timm's bike and be thrown from his bike and landing on Timm's. They were both slow to get back up and onto their bikes while the rest of the entire pack passed them while they were on the ground. They both worked their way back up through the field and Ryder was able to save his race and finish with a 5th while B. Timm was able to work his way back to a super respectable 3rd place finish after such a hard first corner crash. #597 Ethan Fisher took 1st, #29 Hunter Myers 2nd, #6 Bently Timm 3rd for Moto 1. Ryder came off the track with a nice gash on his left elbow and a little mad about his crash.
The second race of the night was in the 51cc 4-8 Open class. Ryder "2Fast" Flake had another great start and again was 2nd into the first corner behind E. Fisher. Ryder worked hard this race, however, his stock Cobra was just not fast enough to catch up to Fisher's modified Cobra. Ryder finished with a 2nd place this race in the Open class all while keeping a decent gap in front of B.Timm who would finish in 3rd.
Round 2 of racing never got to happen. When going down to staging for 2nd round of motos, ACP's generator lost power and the lights were out on the track. They were not able to get it fixed so they had to call the races for the night (about 11:30pm). Ryder wasn't too upset about it as he was super tired from the heat and the late night!
Now for the Overall Points for the Copper State Classic Series of races this summer-
51cc 7-8 Limited Class = 1st -#597 Ethan Fisher, 2nd- #352 Ryder Flake, 3rd- #6 Bently Timm
51cc 4-8 Open Class= 1st #352 Ryder Flake, 2nd- #597 Ethan Fisher, and 3rd- #6 Bently Timm.
Ryder finishes the Copper State Classic Moto Series as the Overall Champion in the Open Class and 2nd overall in the Limited Class (as an AMA 6yr old). He is quickly becoming the fastest 50cc racer in the state and will be a force to reckon with over these next 2yrs while still being able to race these two classes.
At the beginning of this year, Ryder's Dad made the decision to race him up into the 7-8yr old class (a year early) to give him a challenge and get him used to the fast and older kids racing on the track. We didn't have any big expectations this year, or that Ryder would even be a top five finisher going against these older kids this year. However, after only a few months (by April) and now training with Pat from Shark Moto, he turned it up to whole different level. He is now consistently finishing top three race after race after race.
Now for a little break before school starts back up and the crazy heat of summer before Fall Moto begins!
2024 goal--- Making a Run to qualify for Loretta Lynn's Nationals in the Micro 3 (7-8 Limited) class and go for a Worcs series Championship!
Congratulations Ryder"2Fast"Flake #352!!! We love you!

ROUND 2, ACP COPPER STATE CLASSIC SMX
Great night of MX racing out at ACP for Round 2 of the Copper State Classic Night Series.
Races started right around sundown. Ryder "2Fast" Flake was entered in 2 classes (4 motos) for the night. 51cc (4-8yr) Open class and 51cc (7-8yr) Limited class.
First Moto (Open class) Ryder came out of the gates in about 3rd and worked his way up to 2nd by the end of the first lap. However, Ethan Fisher was just too fast on his Modified 50 for anyone to catch and Ryder took 2nd place in a great race.
Second Moto (Race 1 of the Limited class) Ryder got the Holeshot and raced hard to keep the lead all 5 laps until the very last rhythm section E. Fisher made the pass inside and got the win.
Third Moto (Race 2 of Open Class) Ryder "2Fast" Flake #352 took the HoleShot again and battled with E. Fisher #597 and B. Timm #6 and rode strong for another 2nd place finish behind the #597.
Last Moto (Race 2 of the Limited Class) Ethan Fisher got the Holeshot and once again was gone! Ryder kept pace for the first lap however Fisher was out front and checked out!. Ryder then had a good lead over 3rd until a couple little bobbles in the deep ruts let Timm #6 back in the race. Timm kept the pressure on Ryder for the rest of the race until the last lap when Ryder had about a 4 second lead on him at the finish line.
Overall it was a great night of racing with Ryder going 2-2 and 2-2 in both classes getting 2nd overall in both classes. He was hitting some triple jumps that he has never hit in a race before (just started clearing them in practice on Wed) and looked really smooth and fast overall for the night! We are so proud of Ryder and his continued improvement with each and every race.
Great Job to all the Racers that stuck it out all night as the last moto's finished after 2am and Team Flake for a great night of racing with both Flake boys (Jacob and Ryder) ending up on the Podium!

AMRA, KELLY CANYON
Action packed weekend for Team Flake! Rue turned five on june 4th and got to celebrate early with a party on Friday with her friends. Then up to Flagstaff so the boys could race some MX at the AMRA Kelly Canyon Enduro.
The mini's (50cc 4-6, 50cc 7-9, 65cc 7-9) raced on a short single track forest trail through the trees and around water puddles, with some nice banked corners along with some fast and loose transitions, into a high speed straight away before some quick switchbacks and finally through the timing gates. It was a 20 minute moto with the classes starting about 15 seconds behind each other.
Ryder "2Fast" Flake came off the starting line with another close Holeshot and within the first lap was catching up to the 65cc riders. This course forced you to pick good lines and constantly work your way through the lapped traffic (something Ryder loves and is good at). At about 1/2 way thru the race Ryder was already leading his class and was running 2nd overall with just 1 of the 65cc riders in front of him. Ryder was able to pass the lead rider on the last lap and win the overall for the race and 1st in his class. *with adjusted start times Ryder won by a whopping 17 seconds.
Overall it was a great weekend up north with Team Flake! Happy 5th Birthday Princess Rue Bear! and congratulations Ryder "2Fast" Flake on not only winning your moto but winning the overall!

WORCS, CEDAR CITY
Team Flake went up to Cedar City, Utah this weekend to run a WORCS series MX race and also to measure how these AZ boys stack up against the competition in WORCS.
Ryder “2Fast” Flake came out the gates getting the Holeshot and led the entire race taking the win in this 30+min moto🏆. 2nd place went to the current WORCS series points leader that was undefeated in WORCS racing this year until today’s loss to Flake! Norris kept the pressure on Flake for the full moto while they both ran away from the rest of the pack.
We’re so proud of Ryders continued improvements and successes on and off the track!
Big shout out to Jacob “Frosted” Flake for pulling double duty this weekend as “MotoDad” and also A class racer!

WORCS Racing Round 6. Cedar City, Utah Day 2
This morning in the 50cc 7-8 class, Ryder "2Fast" Flake again took it to another level. After his 1st place finish yesterday in the 50cc Open class where he gave the WORCS points leader his only loss of the season, Ryder came out to prove that yesterday was no mistake or just luck, and he was there to win!
Ryder off the starting line had a battle banging bars with the points leader Norris just missing the HoleShot but ran to the inside on the first corner to take the lead (and lead the race). Tate Norris put the pressure on Ryder early however a slip up by Norris gave Ryder some breathing room and he was gone.
Ryder caught up to the 65cc racers 7-9yr and 10-11yr old class that had a gate drop 30 sec in front the 50cc class and continued to work thru the pack till he was racing 1st in his class (50cc 7-8) and 4th overall against the top 65cc 10-11yr olds.
Ryder had some confidence going into today's race hitting the big double that he was losing ground on yesterday and keeping his Cobra MX bike pinned out thru the straight-a-ways. "2Fast" Flake finished 1st with a 1:38 lead/gap in front of Norris who placed second for the day and then a considerable gap between the rest of the field in a long enduring 30min moto.
Shout out to Tate Norris and the rest of the kids out there racing their hearts out this weekend, and the WORCS team for such a great race.
Once again Ryder never ceases to amaze us. He's kind hearted, friends with everyone, great sense of humor (the kid is funny), just earned "Student of the Year" at his school, and races with a passion all while having a smile on his face! (You can say I'm a super proud Pop-pops)
Great Job Ryder "2Fast" Flake on another incredible weekend of racing. I wish I could have been there to see it live (live streaming online was best I could do being at home in AZ this weekend). Also a shout out to Moto Dad Jacob Flake and Moto Bro Jake Kelly for coaching and cheering on our favorite lil MX guy this weekend!

ROUND 1 COPPER STATE CLASSIC, ACP AZ.
Round 1 of the Copper State Classic Night races out at Arizona Cycle Park is a wrap and the results are in the books! The top 7 fastest 50cc racers in AZ all showed up so we knew it was going to be great night of racing.
In his first race- In the 51cc (7-8yr old) Limited Class (Ryder is technically a 6yr old by AMA rules racing up in class) he came out of the gates on fire! Taking the Holeshot and leading the entire race with some tough battling over the four laps and got the win with 2nd 3rd and 4th all right on his tail. He was now on every kids and their parents radar as they have never seen Ryder race so fast and smooth against such a stacked moto of top 50cc racers in AZ. The cheers from the stands and the congratulations Ryder got from many of the other top racers Moto Mom's and Dad's was pretty awesome!
2nd race- 51cc (4-8yr old) Open Class. Ryder once again had a great start and was about 3rd off the start. Battled hard and never gave up and finished with a 2nd place finish. Caught a break as Ethan Fisher who was leading the race had a mechanical and had to pull off giving Ryder the 2nd place position.
3rd race- Moto 2 (7-8yrold )Limited Class. Ryder had a decent start and got stuck battling with Bently for the 3-4place position while Hunter and Ethan pulled a comfortable gap in front of them by about 5-10 seconds. Ryder came off the track emotionally upset and physically tired (this was already 11 o'clock at night) and was so upset with himself that he just wasn't able to get around Bently in that race. Dad (Jacob Flake) had a good little pep talk with him and got him settled for race #4.
4th race (last of the night)- Moto 2 (4-8yr old) Open Class. Ryder had a great start. Hunter took Ryder wide into the first sweeping corner so he had to check up a little bit coming out of the first corner in 4th. Hunter and Ethan battled up front for 1st and 2nd with Ryder and Bently again were battling for that 3rd place position. Ryder was able to stay out in front of Bently even with a couple close challenges by the #6. Ryder finished in 3rd.
For the night- Ryder went 1st-4th *2nd place overall in the Limited class and went 2nd-3rd *2nd place overall in the Open class. We are so proud of him!
Great (LONG and LATE) night of racing. It really is a great group of young boys that all seem to get along pretty good, joking around and horseplaying with each other, giving high fives and knuckles to each other before the motos. Shout out and a great Job to ACP for putting on such a great night event under the lights.
